BURLINGTON, N.C. — The Burlington Royals had an early offensive explosion, scoring 10 runs in the first three innings as they knocked off the Pulaski Yankees 10-5 on Saturday night at Burlington Athletic Stadium. Combined with Friday night’s victory, the Royals clinched the three game series.
An RBI double by Jake Means and a Vinnie Pasquantino run scoring single put Burlington up 2-0 in the first inning.
The Royals put five runs on the board in the second inning with Pasquantino, Michael Massey and Burle Dixon all having RBI doubles.
The Yankees got on the board in the third when Ryder Green hit a 3-2 pitch over the right field fence for his fourth home run of the season.
The Royals added three more runs in the bottom of the third with Pasquantino hitting a solo homer for his fourth RBI of the game.
Roberto Chirinos and Gustavo Campero led the Yankee seventh inning off with back-to-back homers. Jake Pries then doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on an Anthony Volpe sacrifice fly.
Pulaski added a run in the ninth inning when Pries doubled, moved to third on a Borinquen Mendez groundout and scored on a Volpe groundout.
The Yankees lost a heart breaker Friday night, 7-6 in 11 innings.
After spotting the Royals two runs in the first inning, Pulaski rode a 5-2 lead to the bottom of the ninth.
After striking out the side in the eighth inning, reliever Hayden Wesneski gave up a two-run double to Pasquantino followed by a two-out fielding error by Chirinos that allowed the tying run and forced extra innings.
In the 11th the Yankees regained the lead when Robert Javier scored on a throwing error while stealing third.
The Royals came back with two runs in the 11th with William Hancock hitting a walk-off single scoring Maikel Garcia with the game winner.
Pulaski travels to Bristol for a pair of games against the Pirates with the first game on Sunday with a 6 p.m. start time.
