PULASKI — Madison Santos had a two-run homer and Ryder Green and Nelson Alvarez each had solo shots as Pulaski knocked off the Elizabethton Twins 8-4 Monday night in the first of the three-game “Stars and Stripes” series at Calfee Park.
Santos finished the game going 2 for 4 with three RBIs and scored a run and Green was 2 for 3 driving in two runs and scoring three.
The Yankees started the scoring when Green led off the second inning with his third dinger of the season.
In the third, Alvarez hit his homer and Oliver Dunn drove in Anthony Volpe with a single to center to put the Yanks up 3-0.
The Twins threatened in the fifth with runners on first and third and one out, but winning pitcher Yoendrys Gomez struck out Will Holland and forced a groundout from Seth Gray to quell the rally.
Elizabethton got on the board in the sixth inning when Janigson Villalobos doubled home Tyler Webb. Yankee shortstop Volpe gunned down Charles Mack at the plate on the relay from Santos for the third out.
Pulaski answered in the bottom of the sixth as Green drove in Oliver Dunn and then scored on a Santos single to go up 5-1.
In the seventh Santos hit his two-run blast to right-center to give the Yankees a six-run lead.
Chad Bell singled in the eighth inning and advanced to third when the hit ball got past the Twins centerfielder Willie Joe Garry, Jr. and scored on a Volpe groundout.
A Holland two run homer and a Gray solo shot in the ninth accounted for the final three Twin runs.
Gomez threw five shut-out innings, giving up four hits, with five strikeouts and no walks in picking up his third win with no losses on the season.
Elizabethton outhit Pulaski 13-10 but left 10 runners stranded and was 2 for 13 with runners in scoring position as a team.
The two teams will meet Tuesday for the second game of the series at Calfee Park with a 6:30 p.m. start time.
