RICHMOND — Sophomore Kawuan Ray won the long jump and triple jump to power Roanoke Catholic to the boys team championship Saturday in the VISAA Division II state track and field meet at Sports Backers Stadium.

Ray took the triple jump with a 2019 Timesland best mark of 45 feet, 1 ¼ inches. He won the long jump at 21-8. Ray also placed third in the 100 meters to provide 26 team points.

Roanoke Catholic edged Eastern Mennonite 78 ½ to 74 ½ with contributions from multiple sources.

Daniel Connelly finished second in the 800 meters (2:02.90) and 1,600 (4:33.65), and he placed third in the 3,200 (10:20.04).

James Carpenter placed second in the shot put (45-8 ¼) for the Celtics, while Adrian Whorley tied for third in the high jump and was fourth in the long jump.

Euan Spikers of North Cross finished second in the 300 hurdles (41.61). North Cross placed third in the 400 relay.

Roanoke Catholic finished third in the girls meet behind champion Walsingham Academy.

Lily Rodil placed third for the Celtics in the triple jump (32-0).
