Giants Gano Football

Carolina Panthers kicker Graham Gano (9) celebrates his game-winning field goal Sunday.

The Carolina Panthers beat the Giants in dramatic fashion last Sunday, but area viewers did not get to see the winning field goal.

Fox affiliate WFXR cut away from the Fox telecast just before Graham Gano made a 63-yard field goal with one second left to win the game. The Roanoke station switched to some commercials, then to the second game of the Fox doubleheader.

After the Fox network checked with WFXR on Friday, a Fox spokesperson said in an email that WFXR was definitely to blame, not the network.

WFXR vice president and general manager Arika Zink had said Monday that she did not know whether the error was WFXR’s fault or Fox’s fault. She said it was “a terrible miss” for her station not to show the winning field goal.

“It was not anything that was done intentionally,” Zink said.
