KESWICK — Virginia Tech’s Cameron Moore and VCU’s Clifford Foster each fired a 4-under-par 68 on Monday and are tied for the lead after the first round of stroke play qualifying at the VSGA Amateur Championship at Keswick Golf Club.
Both rising sophomores from the Richmond area are seeking their first appearance in match play at the event.
David Rabil of Fairfax Station and Greg Pappas of Fairfax were two shots back. Seven other golfers broke par, including former University of Virginia golfer Connor Messick (71).
After the conclusion of Tuesday’s round, the top 32 players will advance to match play, which begins Wednesday morning.
Campbell hires Tech associate AD Banks
Virginia Tech executive associate athletic director and chief financial officer Omar Banks was named the athletic director at Big South member Campbell on Monday.
The former University of Richmond defensive back had worked for Virginia Tech since 2017. Campbell is in Buies Creek, North Carolina; Banks is a native of that state.
He served as Cincinnati’s executive senior associate athletic director for internal affairs and chief financial officer before being hired by Tech. He worked under Hokies athletic director Whit Babcock at both Cincinnati and Virginia Tech.
