Ralph Berrier


Ralph Berrier Jr. has worked at The Roanoke Times since 1993, having spent most of that time in the newspaper’s features department. He started as a sportswriter covering high school sports, minor league baseball and hockey. He was the paper’s music reporter from 2000-20007 and he currently writes the Dadline parenting column and is a general assignment features reporter.

Berrier, who plays a little bluegrass fiddle on the side, is author of “If Trouble Don’t Kill Me: A Family’s Story of Brotherhood, War, and Bluegrass” (Crown, 2010), a book about his grandfather and great-uncle’s hillbilly music and World War II adventures.
