As a Roanoke County Catawba District resident for more than 20 years, I have considered the county government to be well run and reasonably efficient. However, the past few years have seen a dysfunctional board of supervisors that is more about personal agendas and egos than the citizens’ business.

This embarrassing and wasteful performance can be attributed to two supervisors who need to go. From the Catawba District, the “promises kept” accomplishments touted by incumbent Supervisor Butch Church can be attributed mostly to other programs or departments, such as the school board, and his official conduct has been a detriment to the orderly operation of county business.

Fortunately, the Catawba District has an exceptionally well-qualified replacement in candidate Martha Hooker. With the county’s focus on economic development and schools, she brings exemplary credentials.

Hooker is a long-serving member of the Roanoke County Planning Commission and works at Glenvar High School to coordinate with local businesses for student cooperative education. She will be an exceptional leader and an extraordinary asset for the board of supervisors.

I strongly urge the citizens of Catawba District to join me in getting out the vote for Martha Hooker. It is long past time for this change.
