In an ad targeting State Sen. John Edwards, the misnamed Americans for Prosperity misrepresents the impact EPA's Clean Power Plan would have in Virginia ("Conservative group targets Edwards," Oct. 19 news story). Far from representing "reckless new energy mandates," the Clean Power Plan is an opportunity for Virginia to develop a compliance plan that boosts the economy.

A study commissioned by Advanced Energy Economy Institute shows that the commonwealth could create 5,700 new temporary and permanent jobs by using energy efficiency to reduce energy waste and diversifying its power generation sources with renewable energy and natural gas.

Virginians should ignore scare tactics from front groups like AFP and focus on what can be gained by the energy transformation already under way and make the most of it.
