Gilbert Collins' opinion of June 18, "Electoral College should be obsolete," overlooks the founders sense of fairness in setting it up.

Without the Electoral College California and New York would elect every President since they are heavily populated states. It would be a pure democracy, not a Republic.

Gilbert does not want to live in a pure democracy any more that a single sheep wants to live in a wolf pack. The wolves always vote on "whats for dinner."
