June 12, 2019 Linda Frances Steele, 69, of Catawba, Va., eldest child of T.D. Steele and the late Anita M. Steele, died on Wednesday, June 12, 2019. She was a graduate of North Cross School, Harvard University and the University of Virginia Law School. Linda practiced law in Roanoke and New York City. She returned to the Roanoke Valley where she put her interest in genealogy and historical research to good use. Linda was part of the founding group which began to digitize and place online many records of The Historical Society of Western Virginia. She ran The Historical Society's virtual documenting project and served as Registrar. Linda was active in the NSDAR, NSCD-VA and Colonial Dames XVII Century. She helped create and became Executive Director of the Virtual Museum of Roanoke Valley at Community High School. There she established an online platform for family histories and engaged students in research and encouraged online projects of their own. Linda is survived by her father, T.D. Steele (Dixie); brothers, Roger D. Steele (Linda L.) and T. Garrick Steele; sister, Carelyn S. Sheppard; six nephews and nieces; and four great-nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2019, in St. John's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Virtual Museum of Roanoke Valley at Community High School, Good Samaritan Hospice or a charity of your choice.
