June 10, 2019 Nancy S. Dewhurst, beloved wife of Gordon G. Dewhurst for over 48 years, passed away peacefully at their home in Hardy, Va., on Monday, June 10, 2019, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Nancy was a native of Utica, N.Y. She moved with her family to Northern Virginia, where she grew up, went to school, and married Gordon. In 2003, Nancy retired from her 37-year career as a dental hygienist and Gordon retired from his career with the federal government. They moved to the Roanoke area and settled in Hardy where they have resided for over 15 years. Nancy was an active member of the St. Andrew's Catholic Church and sang in the church choir for many years. She was also an active and proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition to Gordon, Nancy is survived by her brothers, Jeff (Marsha) and Peter (Colleen); as well as by five nephews; two nieces; five great-nephews; and three great-nieces. Nancy was beloved by her family and many friends and will be sorely missed. There will be a viewing from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at noon on Friday, June 14, 2019, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church with Father Kevin Segerblom officiating. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Diocesan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Roanoke in memory of Nancy S. Dewhurst.
