CLOETER, Herbert J. April 21, 1929 - June 9, 2019 Herbert J. Cloeter, 90, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with his Lord on Sunday, June 9, 2019. He was born in Annandale, Minn., on April 21, 1929. Herb enlisted in the United States Navy and served on a repair boat during the Korean War where he learned the patternmaking trade. He married the love of his life, Edna Dreyer, in 1953, and settled in Moorehead, Minn. In 1957 Herb started Red River Pattern, a business making patterns for the foundry industry. In 1960, he and Edna moved their business and young family to Roanoke, Va., and opened Hub Pattern Corporation. Herb ran the business until his retirement in 1989, when he handed it over to his two sons, John and Don, so that he could concentrate full-time on his lifelong passion of farming on the land he and Edna fondly called, "Evening Acres." He raised sheep and looked forward to sharing his lambs with area pre-school children each spring. Above all else, Herb loved God and lived life true to his faith. He and Edna were among the founding members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Herb was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Edna "Schatzie;" parents, the Rev. Arthur and Lola Cloeter; sister, Rhoda Wellbrock; son-in-law, Jackie McPhearson; and grandson, Drew Cloeter. Surviving are his brothers, David and Richard Cloeter; sisters, Margaret Grefe, Pauline Riemer, and Carol Hoefer; daughter, Jeanine McPhearson; son, John Cloeter and wife, Susan; son, Don Cloeter and wife, Nancy; grandchildren, Anna Cloeter, Amy Cloeter, Kendall Cloeter (Jonathan Hillyard), Chase Cloeter, Kimberly McPhearson Wegel, Christopher McPhearson, Katie Tarris (Jonathan), and Daniel Cloeter (Kayla); and great-grandchildren, Olivia Tarris and Harper Hillyard. The family wishes to thank Tina Harris, Lou Ann Terry, Cynthia Kidwell, and Cindy Lawhorn who cared for Herb in his home for the last two years of his life and whom he loved like family. The Family will receive visitors from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at Oakey's South Chapel. The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday Jun 12, 2019, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with the Rev. Hilbert Dorn officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be expressed at
