April 30, 1928 October 18, 2017 Ivan Glenn Bales, Sr., 89 of Pearisburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg, Va. Ivan was born on April 30, 1928 in Pearisburg and was a son of the late Charles Morgan Bales, Sr. and Nannie Morris Bales. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Norma June Crosier Bales; one sister, Mary H. Morris; four brothers, Charles M. Bales, Jr., James Arthur Bales, Samuel H. Bales and Tommy L. Bales. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, a retired employee of Hercules, Inc., Radford Army Ammunition Plant with 26 years of service and was a member of the Angels Rest Baptist Fellowship in Pearisburg. He was a proud and longtime supporter of the Giles High School Spartans, an avid hunter and fisherman and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by one son, Ivan Glenn (Buddy) Bales, Jr. of Newport; three grandchildren, Christopher Troy Bales of Pearisburg, Ashley Marie Bales of Pembroke, Matthew Wilson Bales of Chantilly; one brother, Graham C. Bales of Lindside, W.Va.; two sister-in-law, Betty Bales of Pearisburg, Sue Bales, S.D.; two special former daughters-in-law, Pamela M. Albert, Debra Reed, many nieces, nephews, friends, friend and caretaker, Amanda Havens and loving dog and cat, Crash and Oreo. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, October, 20, 2017 at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Gary Poff officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm.
