The driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee has been taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the Jeep lost control on Interstate 81 Thursday morning, according to state police.
Police say the Jeep was traveling northbound near mile marker 139 in Roanoke County when it crossed through the median and the guardrail. The Jeep struck a tractor-trailer, a straight truck and two cars that were traveling southbound.
State police initially reported that two people had been sent to the hospital, but later clarified that only the Jeep's driver was the only person taken for medical treatment.
Sgt. Rick Garletts said the Jeep's driver has been charged with reckless driving. The driver's name was not immediately available.
All northbound and southbound lanes have been reopened as of 2:20 p.m. Drivers may still experience delays as backups clear from the area.
