HARMAN Georgianna Epperly August 22, 1929 September 7, 2019 Georgianna Epperly Harman, 90, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away with family by her side on Saturday, September 7, 2019. She was born August 22, 1929 in Floyd, Va. to the late Rufus Epperly and Susanna DeHart Epperly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Edward Harman; brothers, Alec Epperly, Clyde Epperly; sisters, Dessie Moricle and Frances Dellinger. She was a faithful member of the Christiansburg Church of the Brethren for 67 years, serving as deaconess and Sunday School teacher. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Greg Harman(Mary Jane); her daughter, Ellen Maxwell (Eddie); her grandchildren, Jeff (Michelle) Harman, Luke Harman, Beth(Ryan) Schoonover, Laura (Joe) Kozlowski, Michael Maxwell, Kayla Maxwell; her great-grandchildren, Theo, Paul, Maggie, Molly, Maxwell, Henry; brothers, Ben Epperly, Ray Epperly (Maxine); and sister, Margurite (Russell) Harris; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Paul Stover officiating. Interment will follow in the Topeco Cemetery. ADKINS, Mildred Ann February 12, 1935 - September 6, 2019 Mildred Ann Adkins, 84, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 6, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Mildred was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was a devoted member of the Salem Church of Christ for many years. Her memory will live on through the hearts of her loved ones as a warm, gentle, and kind soul who was loved by all who knew her. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, James and Fannie Howard; sisters, June Bandy, Frances Eskridge, and Nancy Compton; as well as a brother, Melvin Howard. Left behind to cherish her memory is a loving husband of 64 years, Clarence Adkins; daughters, Bonnie Adkins, Donna Adkins, and Rhonda Hernandez; sisters, Evelyn Still, Mary Adkins (Victor), and Hazel Lee Johnson; brothers, Marvin Howard (Beanie), and Frank Howard (Peggy); seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; as well as five great-great-grandchildren. March 27, 1933 September 7, 2019 DJ Cooper was born on March 27, 1933, and died on Saturday, September 7, 2019, in Salem, Va. He was 86 years old. DJ was born and lived in Roanoke, Va. He served as an officer in the Virginia National Guard in the 1960s. DJ went on to become a builder and developer for the remainder of his career. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Martin and Geneva Patsel Cooper. DJ is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lexie Ruth Cooper; sons, Al Martin Cooper and his wife, Vicki, of Roanoke, and Jimmy Dean Cooper of Mexico; grandchildren, Christy Underwood and husband, Bryan, Courtney Turnmire and husband, Brad, and Travis Cooper and wife, Annie; and eight great-grandchildren. September 27, 1971 September 6, 2019 Darcie Ann Sloan, 47, of Blue Ridge, Va., passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Erie, Pa., on September 27, 1971, to David M. Huff (deceased) and Barbara Rogala Huff. Darcie graduated from Tech Memorial High School in 1989 and from Edinboro University with a degree in Criminal Justice in 1993. She was an employee of Wells Fargo's wholesale loan operations division in Roanoke. Upon moving to the Roanoke Valley in 1994, Darcie met and married her husband, David Sloan, whom she had just recently celebrated 19 years of marriage and as both she and David said, in the last week, was a love and friendship that spanned over 25 years. Darcie and Dave have two wonderful children, Madison (17) and Tyler (8) who were the loves of Darcie's life and came before anything else. Her huge smile and infectious personality, along with her sweet and gentle nature was a gift to us all. Darcie was loved by everyone she met and always lived under a credo of family first. She will be deeply missed because of her passive nature and her ability to express her compassion and love towards others. Along with her husband and children Darcie is survived by her mother, Barbara Huff; her mother-in-law, Janice Sloan; father-in-law, Ivan Sloan; identical twin sister, Debbie (Jim) Shaver; sister, Dawn (Brian) Corcoran; sister-in-law, Tina (Matt) McKenna; sister-in-law, Terri Sloan; nephews, Mason, Austin, Dylan and Bennett; nieces, Kayla, McKenna and Teagan; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins from Erie, Pa. Special thanks to Darcie's dear friend, Kathy Dunn, who stood by Darcie taking her to treatments and hospital visits and to Wells Fargo for all of the support they have given in the last few years. TIEDEMANN Betty Sue Catron January 29, 1949 September 6, 2019 Betty Sue Catron Tiedemann, 70, of Salem, Va. and formerly of Grundy, Va., died unexpectedly on Friday, September 6, 2019, at home. She was born on Saturday, January 29, 1949, to the late John Catron and Delphia J. Hurley Catron. She graduated from VWCC with a business degree and was employed by Control Equipment, Inc. for 22 years. All those who knew her loved her infectious personality and kind soul. She will forever be loved and missed. Betty was preceded in death by her stepson, Robert L. Tiedemann II. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Robert L. Tiedemann; stepdaughter, Sherry Carr (Tom); daughter, Dedra Tiedemann-Horn (Cliff); sons, Christopher M. Tiedemann and Michael Shawn Tiedemann (Megan); 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
