The third annual Highlander Pride Weekend is scheduled for April 25-27, and will include the Red and White Gala, the Highlander Open Golf Tournament and the Highlander Half Marathon and 5K. In addition, the weekend features the second annual Rollin’ on the River Food Truck Rodeo.
Proceeds from activities will go towards Radford University’s Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund.
The gala takes place Thursday, April 25, at the Dedmon Center Arena, and includes a silent and live auction, a buffet dinner with open bar, as well as a program of guest speakers and current student-athletes. General admission tickets are $125 each, or $225 per couple. Faculty/staff tickets are $100, and a table for eight costs $850. Go to https://e.givesmart.com/events/cOB/ to purchase.
The Highlander Open Golf Tournament, scheduled for Friday, April 26, at the Pete Dye River Course, is currently only accepting wait-list registrations.

Saturday, April 27, offers a day full of activities, starting with the Highlander Half Marathon, which sets off at 8 a.m.; and the Highlander 5K which gets underway at 9:30 a.m. Both depart from the Dedmon Center. The fee for the half-marathon is $85, and the 5K is $35. The last day to register online is Saturday, April 20. Go to https://runsignup.com/highlanderhalf_5k. Paper registration will be open for the 5K and Half Marathon at the Dedmon Center at packet pick-up on Friday, April 26, ONLY. There will be NO race day registration. Saturday packet pickup will be from 6 to 7:30 a.m. Awards will be presented in Bisset Park once the races are finished.
After the races, all are invited to Bisset Park for The Rollin’ on the River Food Truck Rodeo. More than 25 food trucks are scheduled to serve specialty fare from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event is being sponsored by Thai This Express, Radford University Athletics, Front Porch Recycling, SignWise, New River Adventure and the Radford Visitor’s Center. The day also includes live music, children’s activities and more. Performers are scheduled at the following times:
- 11:30 a.m.. to 12:30 p.m. -- Dirt Road Breakdown
- 12:45 to 2 p.m. -- Abigail Belcher
- 2:15 to 3:45 p.m. -- Ryan Greer
- 4 to 6 p.m. -- Space Monkey
Bisset Park is located at 23 Berkley Williams Drive in Radford, along the banks of the New River. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the entire day, which showcases some of the city’s wonderful culinary and outdoor recreation opportunities such as multi-use trails, fishing, ‘tubing and other river recreation.
Radford Transit will offer free shuttles from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Radford University’s Lot Z and guests are encouraged to use the shuttles to avoid parking congestion. Lot Z is located adjacent to the Dedmon Center athletic facility at 101 University Drive.
