A brief storm that swept through the Roanoke Valley has knocked out power for about 2,000 customers.
There are about 200 outages in Roanoke — clustered in the Grandin neighborhood area — and another 1,900 in Roanoke County — mostly in the Cave Spring and Vinton areas.
Heavy rains and gusty winds passed through the region, bringing down power lines and trees. Appalachian Power did not have estimates of when the power would be restored.
Roanoke Fire-EMS blocked off Salem Avenue between Second and Third Streets after panels fell off the side of The Roanoke Times building. The damage is likely from the storm.
