A truck fire caused a four- to five-mile backup on I-81 northbound near mile marker 131 and the Dixie Caverns exit on Thursday. Later, northbound traffic was snarled by another wreck.

Two incidents with tractor-trailers caused major delays in Montgomery and Roanoke counties on Thursday afternoon.

Virginia State Police and the Fort Lewis Volunteer Fire Company responded to a truck that caught fire on I-81 northbound in Roanoke County near mile marker 131 and the Dixie Caverns exit. Crews extinguished the fire, and no injuries were reported.

Later in the afternoon, a wreck involving a tractor-trailer shut down both northbound lanes at mile marker 127.7.

Traffic began flowing again early Thursday evening.
