Two Huskies had to be put down after they apparently fell on Friday from the sixth floor of the parking garage at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

“It is unknown at this time if any criminal mischief was involved in the incident,” Roanoke police Capt. Stephen Keatts said. “The animals lived in the neighborhood close to the scene and had escaped their enclosure.”

Animal wardens arrived in the 1400 block of Hamilton Terrace Southeast just after 9 a.m. to help Carilion police with a report that two dogs had “gone over the wall” of the parking lot.

Wardens found the animals in the surface parking lot next to the garage, Keatts said. Because of the severity of the injuries, the dogs were euthanized.

A passerby who found the dogs alerted authorities, Keatts said.

Wardens were able to notify the owner immediately because both Huskies had microchips noting their registration.

Anyone with information about the incident can call Roanoke police at 853-2212 or Carilion police at 981-7911.
