A next-door neighbor reported to authorities the suspect in a triple homicide in Keeling came to her residence and punched her in the arm on Tuesday morning, according to a criminal complaint.
Minutes later, she heard gunshots from the house and arrived to find a body in the driveway.
Matthew Thomas Bernard, 18, is facing first-degree murder charges in the deaths of his mother, sister and nephew: Joan Bernard, 62; Emily Bernard Bivens, 25; and Cullen Bivens, 1.
Upon inspection of the house, deputies found all three victims had shell casings near them and two had visible gunshot wounds to the head, according to the document. A bloody sledgehammer was in the garage.
A rifle was found in the woods behind the house, the document stated.
Bernard is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 5.
