A woman was killed by a car in Montgomery County early Friday morning while she was checking on a dog she had just hit.

Leslie Ratcliff, 50, of Hiwassee, in Pulaski County, was driving east at about 5:40 a.m. in the 4200 block of Peppers Ferry Road, near the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, when her 2010 Hundai Sonata struck a dog, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

When Ratcliff went to check on the injured dog, a 2013 Ford Focus traveling east hit her.

Deputies aren’t releasing the name of the driver who hit Ratcliff, but said the driver was uninjured and cooperating with authorities.

Police have not filed charges.
