Botetourt County authorities arrested two men Tuesday night after a shooting and stabbing in Troutville.

Matthew T. Green, 20, of Troutville is charged with two counts of malicious wounding, reckless handling of a firearm and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Tyler L. Tatum-Wheetley, 20, of Roanoke is charged with malicious wounding and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Deputies arrived at the 300 block of Tucker Road just after 10 p.m. in response to reports of gunshots, yelling and, ultimately, a report that someone had been shot, according to a Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office news release.

They discovered a man who had been shot and stabbed and a woman who had been shot.

“It was a verbal argument that escalated to the shooting and the stabbing of these folks, is what we understand,” Sheriff Ronnie Sprinkle said.

The suspects and victims knew one another and were in the same house at the time, Sprinkle said. Deputies detained the two suspects at the scene before allowing emergency medical workers to treat the injured man and woman and take them to a hospital, the news release said.

“As far as I know, I think they’re doing fine,” Sprinkle said.

The suspects were arrested and are being held at the Botetourt County Jail.
