The Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg is bringing the gospel group The Hoppers to town! This special fundraising concert will take place Friday, July 12, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Christiansburg High School, located at 100 Independence Blvd.
The Hoppers have been singing to global audiences for more than 60 years, with appearances ranging from presidential inaugural ceremonies to New York’s Carnegie Hall, as well as performances in Israel, Europe and Africa.
This multi-award-winning family group was formed in 1957 in the rural farm town of Madison, North Carolina.
Members today include Claude and Connie; their son Dean and his wife, Kim; and son Mike.
Connie, a cancer survivor, has been honored with the prestigious Marvin Norcross Award, in addition to numerous industry and fan honors, and has been inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
Kim hails from her own nationally acclaimed musical family, The Greenes, and is noted for her unmistakable, rafter-ringing soprano vocals.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The audience will be treated to an opening performance by Southwest Virginia native Dale Buckner.
All funds from this event will go to the service account of the Kiwanis Club and will be used to support the needs of youth in the local community.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $22 at the door.
Advance tickets can be purchased in Christiansburg at the Montgomery Museum (300 S. Pepper St., Tuesday through Friday) or Old Town Barber (106 W. Main St.).
