A squirrel that got into the Seventh Street substation caused power to go out for more than 500 customers of Appalachian Power Co. Monday morning, including in key buildings such as Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital, the Poff federal building, The Roanoke Times and Appalachian Power's own headquarters.

Electricity returned around 11:30 a.m.
