The Salem Kiwanis, in partnership with Salem Parks and Recreation, will be the official host of this year’s Salem Christmas Parade. The role now filled by the Salem Kiwanis was previously held by the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce.
“We want to let the community know about the change early to avoid any confusion,” said 2019 Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce President Toni McLawhorn. “With this announcement, we also want to voice our strong support for the Salem Kiwanis. For years, the club has played a big role in the parade’s success and we are confident in their ability to organize the event.”
Paul Dodson, president of the Salem Kiwanis Club, said a date for this year’s parade is already on the books. “The parade will be held Friday, Dec. 6 and we look forward to working with the community to host this long-standing holiday tradition.”
The Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce made the decision to no longer host the parade in order to focus on its core mission, which is to provide educational and networking events for its members.
