LEGAL NOTICE ROANOKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS The Roanoke County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, in the Board Meeting Room of the Roanoke County Administration Center, 5204 Bernard Drive, Roanoke, VA, on the proposed amendments to Chapter 13, Article I of the Roanoke County Code. The proposed amendments would delete several offenses including offenses that are unused and duplicative of offenses set forth in the Code of Virginia, or which have been rendered invalid by Section 15.2-915 of the Code of Virginia (which generally prohibits localities from regulating firearms) including Sec. 13-2.- Assault and battery; Sec. 13-5.- Shooting in, along or near roads or streets; Sec. 13-5.4.- Prohibiting possession of loaded firearms in certain cases; Sec. 13-6.- Obstructing free passage of others; Sec. 13-8.- Petit larceny; Sec. 13-9.- Shoplifting; Sec. 13-11.- Unlawful entry on church or school property; Sec. 13-12.- Abandoned or discarded refrigerators and other airtight containers; Sec. 13-14.- Automobiles as sleeping quarters; and Sec. 13-15.- Transportation of waste material in open or uncovered vehicle. Further, it is proposed that several offenses be amended to be consistent with authority set forth in the Code of Virginia, including Sec. 13-5.2.- Prohibiting hunting or trapping near primary and secondary highways (prohibiting hunting with a firearm within 100 yards of any primary or secondary highway); Sec. 13-5.5.- Urban archery hunting season (changing the penalty from a Class 1 to a Class 4 misdemeanor); and Sec. 13-13.1.- Authorized disposal of trash; unlawful scavenging or handling of trash (deleting a reference to the discontinued "free loader" trailer rental program).
