Friday, November 1, 5:30-8:30 pm, come join us at The Market Gallery for ArtbyNight where we will be featuring a striking new landscape show by Edward Bordett, Susan Egbert, and Susanne Sellars. Bordett’s detailed, naturalistic oils paintings of Venice entrance us with the rhythmic play of reflected light and deep shadow on canals, boats, and antique buildings. More experimental in her approach, Egbert uses mixed media to evoke the saturated colors and textures of land- and even the molecular make-up of rocks, earth, and air. Finally, Sellars explores a brand-new process in her lyrical clay monotypes of water and woods. She applies colored clay slips to a clay matrix and then transfers the constructed image to a polyester substrate, adding organic stains or liquid pigments to the clay slip to create the colors. She writes, “The process lends itself to abstract, indistinct image making which is new to me. Working with the clay monotypes helped me loosen up and just play with art making.”
The show hangs from Oct. 29-Nov. 27. Exhibiting contemporary Southwest Virginia artists, The Market Gallery is located on Roanoke’s historic downtown market, at 23 Salem Avenue, Roanoke, VA 24011.
