After more than a year in the works, a new hotel has opened in Roanoke County.
The Tru by Hilton, a new brand for the Roanoke Valley, recently opened in Hollins next to Gander Outdoors. The four-story hotel has 82 rooms and was an $8 million investment adding 30 new jobs. The midscale brand was launched by Hilton Worldwide in 2016 and is designed to be value-conscious, modern and digital-friendly with bright colors, a convenience store and snack shop, and a large lobby designed for eating, working and lounging.
“We are excited to be the first to bring the new Tru by Hilton brand to the Roanoke Valley," said Kirtesh Patel, a partner in the project.
The hotel opening coincides with the Plantation Road Transportation Enhancement Project, a key economic development driver for the Hollins area, according to Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Martha Hooker, who was at the hotel's grand opening. The project began in 2009 and has funneled funds to improve the Plantation Road area. Grant funding already has been secured for sidewalks between Walrond Drive and Gander Way, where the hotel is located, according to a news release from the county.
