Hurricane Ophelia has managed to push some moisture back into our area. That's why we have the low clouds and more stickiness than in past days. There were even a few meager showers along and east of the Blue Ridge overnight.
A few showers can't be ruled out today, until Ophelia clears the Outer Banks and winds turn around to the north in the counterclockwise circulation around the hurricane.
Ophelia might leave behind just enough tropical moisture that a cold front passing Thursday night and Friday may be able to trigger more widespread showers and a few thunderstorms. It's not a certainty by any means, but it looks like the best chance of rain we've had in more than two weeks.
The overall pattern still looks dry, though, with most weather systems coming at us from the interior of the continent and little in the way of Gulf moisture getting involved. We'll just have to wait and see if the dryness hangs around long enough to become a serious problem.
