Bouldering takes rock climbers to new heights
Sports, sports, sports
For safety, boulderers use large foam mats dubbed “crash pads” to soften any falls they may take. Bouldering is recommended for experienced climbers who are used to making more technical ascents, especially because if they slip, there is no rope to anchor them to the rock. It is essential to have a good understanding of basic climbing techniques to reduce the chance of falling. Climbing chalk and specialized climbing shoes are recommended to give the climber a better grip on the rock.
Even if you feel you are a good enough climber to go alone, remember to always bring a buddy along as a climbing partner and spotter. After all, having a spotter is an important aspect of bouldering.
Those interested in bouldering can look into visiting a local indoor rock climbing facility. These places usually offer classes for all skill levels, and some facilities even take groups to local climbing locations.
Bouldering enthusiast Isaac Slone said the sport is best described as “a powerful sequence of moves expressing the fluidity of motion bringing the climber closer.”
OK, forget it. You can’t really describe the feeling of bouldering. It’s just awesome.
