Continuing education opportunities in the Roanoke Valley offer entry into a variety of fields. Below is a listing of some of the available programs.

Bedford County

Adult Basic Education (pre-GED) courses are offered on an open-enrollment basis at several sites throughout the county. A CNA class is offered that includes the classroom instruction and clinical experience necessary to prepare for the licensing exam. Other classes are offered based on community interest. Craig County

Courses run September through June and include adult literacy programs, pre-GED and GED courses. For more information, call 864-5191.

Franklin County

Instruction is offered year-round. Literacy, GED, and English as a second language courses are available as well as adult high school. A variety of workforce skills for those needing skill development and for displaced workers are also offered. The Franklin County Workforce Consortium offers adult education classes through Virginia Western Community College, Patrick Henry Community College and Ferrum College. Hollins University

Horizon Program: Adult studies baccalaureate degree program designed for any woman who has been out of formal education for four or more years. Transfers from community colleges are welcome. All graduate programs are open to men and women. Undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D programs offered. Classes held at convenient hours for working adults. Old Dominion University

ODU’s TELETECHNET operates sites on community college campuses throughout Virginia. Interactive courses are offered days, evenings, weekends and online. Bachelor’s degrees include: Engineering Technology, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Professional Writing, Psychology, Nursing, Health Sciences, Human Services, Computer Science and Criminal Justice. Masters degrees include: Nursing, Community Health, Engineering Management, Occupation & Technical Studies, Special Education and Business Administration. Day and night courses available. GED program offered for those who did not receive a high school diploma. Classes include: Computer Basics, Digital Photography, Spanish, English as a Second Language, Auto Body Repair, Refinishing Furniture.
