Saturday, April 21, 2007Shot twice, he stopped to warn womanVirginia Tech student Jamal Carver may have saved a life when he stopped to warn another student that she was in danger, even though he had already been shot twice. Carver is in good condition but still at the hospital after he was shot at Norris Hall on Monday morning, according to a spokesman for Carilion Health System. Carver, 21, is a senior from Virginia Beach majoring in engineering science and mechanics. His mother, Sandy Carver, told The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot that he was in engineering class Monday morning. After the shooting started, he was hit by one bullet in his right arm and another in his left side as he left his classroom. "He didn't even know he'd been shot in the side until someone told him he was bleeding," Sandy Carver told the Pilot. Sandy Carver said Jamal told her he ran downstairs and into another classroom, where he warned another student who was taking a test. Jamal Carver played football for Salem High School in Virginia Beach, but his grandfather Zack White of Hertford, N.C., told the Pilot that he decided to focus more on his academic studies once he reached Virginia Tech. -- Mason Adams and The Virginian-Pilot |
