Friday, August 03, 2007Breaking News: Roanoke Times/roanoke.com recognized for coverage of Virginia Tech shootingsThe Roanoke Times and roanoke.com won an Associated Press Managing Editors' Online Convergence Award for effective presentation of a story in print and the same story online. The newspaper and Web site were recognized for coverage of the shootings at Virginia Tech, the APME announced Friday. The online convergence awards recognize print/online combinations that exhibit the best applications of both in presenting a story. The newspaper and Web site won the same award two years ago for "An Unlikely Refuge," a series about Somali Bantu refugees settling in Roanoke's Terrace Apartments. Other winners include:

APME is an association of editors at 1,500 Associated Press member newspapers in the U.S. and the Canadian Press in Canada. This year's award winners were selected during a meeting of the association’s board of directors that ended Monday in New York. The awards will be presented during the group's annual conference Oct. 3-6 in Washington, D.C. Directors did not participate in discussions or votes on their own newspapers' entries. |
