Breaking News: Yanks donate $1 million to Tech memorial; to play Tech in exhibition

The New York Yankees are donating $1 million to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund, and the Yankees announced today that they will play an exhibition game against the Tech baseball team on or near the Blacksburg campus next spring.

Dave Smith, Tech's director of sports information, said details of the game have not been worked out but it will probably be played in between Spring Training and the beginning of the baseball season. That would mean a game date of late March or early April. Tonight's Yankees-Red Sox game in New York begins at 7:05 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN. Tech President Charles Steger will throw out the first pitch.
