Thursday, May 03, 2007Mild vandalism reported at Cho family's homeA police spokeswoman said she doesn't believe the Centreville home is still being targeted.Fairfax County police responded in Centreville last week to a report of vandalism at the family home of Seung-Hui Cho. Police said the home was not damaged and neighbor Marshall Main described the vandalism as minor. Main said toilet paper had been strewn around the front of the Cho family's home, "just the way kids would do on Halloween." Main said he has not heard concern expressed in the neighborhood that the Cho home might be hit with more malicious vandalism. The family reportedly has been in seclusion since Cho shot and killed 32 people at Virginia Tech on April 16. He then shot and killed himself in Norris Hall, where most of the killings occurred. On April 24, the Fairfax County police department responded about 6:30 a.m. to the Cho townhouse on Truitt Farm Drive for a "destruction to the property," according to Officer Camille Neville, a spokeswoman for the department. Police filled out a report, she said. Neville would not say what officers found at the scene but said materials there were all removed. Main, who lives across the street and three doors up from the Cho residence in the neighborhood of attached townhouses, said his wife woke early and saw toilet paper outside the Cho residence. Neville said police carefully monitored the house when media hordes descended after Cho was identified as the on-campus killer. She would not comment specifically about current monitoring. "We have no reason to believe that the house is a target now," she said. Main said the street has been "absolutely quiet," since the throngs of journalists moved on. |
