TUESDAY
vtONE April Gathering

When: 8 to 10 p.m.
Where: Squires Commonwealth Ballroom
What: Bring a blanket to sit on the floor for worship.

Memorial service
When: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Blacksburg Jewish Community Center
What: Rabbi Zahara Davidowitz-Farkas will lead a service marked by candle-lighting, readings, the Kaddish prayer and a concluding “walk around the block,” the traditional way in Judaism to symbolize the end of a year of mourning and reflection.

WEDNESDAY
Official campus events

University commemoration
When: 10:30 a.m.
Where: Drillfield, rain or shine
What: Tech President Charles Steger will speak, followed by a reading of the names of the 32 victims and words about each.

Candlelight vigil
When: Sundown (about 8:15 p.m.)
Where: Drillfield, rain or shine
What: Organized by Virginia Tech students, the vigil will begin using a ceremonial candle that will be lit at midnight and burn throughout the day, watched over by the Corps of Cadets.

Meditation
When: 7 a.m. to midnight
Where: Jamestown Room, Squires Student Center

Memorial Slide Show
When: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Assembly Hall, Holtzman Alumni Center
What: A showcase of the outpouring of support Virginia Tech and the community received after the tragedy.

Group performances
When: 3 to 5 p.m. (doors open at 2 p.m.)
Where: Haymarket Theatre
What: Performances hosted by Contemporary Dance Ensemble.

Art exhibit
When: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Perspectives Gallery, Squires Student Center
What: The exhibit, “April 16: Remembrance, Recognition and Healing,” will be on display.

BreakZONE
When: 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Where: Squires Student Center
What: Admission is free all day.

Group performances
When: Noon to 3 p.m.
Where: Commonwealth Ballroom
What: A stage will be set up for group singing or dance performance.

Remembering Through Art Creation
When: Noon to 5 p.m.
Where: Old Dominion Ballroom
What: Express your thoughts and feelings by creating art in various mediums.

Reflection and music
When: Noon to 8 p.m.
Where: War Memorial Chapel

Garden Tours: Hahn Horticulture Gardens Meadow Garden
When: 1 to 3 p.m.
Where: Peggy Lee Hahn Garden Pavilion, West Patio
What: Enjoy a guided tour through the Hahn Horticulture Garden . Tours start every 30 minutes.

Chess for Fun
When: 1 to 4 p.m.
Where: Brush Mountain Room, Squires Student Center
What: Come by for a relaxing time playing or learning chess. All skill and experience levels welcome.

Open mike
When: 1 to 4 p.m.
Where: Deet’s Coffee Shop
What: This is an opportunity to share poetry, individual songs or writings.

Tree dedication
When: 2 p.m.
Where: Front lawn of Hillcrest Hall
What: A tree will be planted in memory of Austin Cloyd and Maxine Turner.

Virginia Tech vs. Liberty softball
When: 3 p.m.
Where: Tech Softball Park
What: Having been one of the first teams to return to action last spring, the Virginia Tech softball team wanted to play in memory of those who lost their lives and those who were injured or traumatized. A tribute to the victims will be held before the game.

Remembrance Through Dance
When: 3 to 5 p.m. (doors open at 2 p.m.)
Where: Haymarket Theatre
What: A dance performance will be held in memory of Reema Samaha.

We ARE Prevailing Discussion
When: 4 to 5:15 p.m.
Where: 1760 Litton-Reaves Hall
What: Listen to stories of support received from other students, families, communities, the university and the world and share your remembrance. Mark Benson, Clinical Psychologist and Associate Professor of Human Development leads the discussion.

BLACKSBURG
Open sanctuary
When: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Blacksburg Baptist Church
What: Come to the church sanctuary and pray. Counselors will be available.

Interfaith gathering
When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Blacksburg Library and 6 to 10 p.m. at Price’s Fork Elementary School
What: Spiritual Counselors from the Church of Spiritual Alliance will be on hand to talk.

Worship
When: 6:15 p.m.
Where: Blacksburg Baptist Church
What: The Downtown Ecumenical Fellowship (Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, Christ Episcopal Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Blacksburg United Methodist Church, Blacksburg Baptist Church) host a worship service. At the close of the service, attendees are invited to walk as a group to the Candlelight vigil on the Drillfield.

Laughter for Love 2
When: 9:30 p.m.
Where: Attitudes Bar & Cafe
What: Eight comedians and special guests will perform in a benefit show for the families of the Northern Illinois University shooting victims.
Cost: $12

CHRISTIANSBURG
VT Memorial Broadcast

When: 10:30 a.m. to noon
Where: New River Valley Mall food court
What: A live broadcast of the Virginia Tech Commemoration Event.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY
April 16 Ceremony

When: Noon
Where: Peace Sculpture in front of Montgomery County Government Center
What: During a ceremony open to the public, board of supervisors Chairwoman Annette Perkins will dedicate a plaque to those whose lives were lost or affected by the campus shootings. The plaque will be placed permanently in a nearby garden.

Moment of reflection
When: Noon
Where: In front of Montgomery County Courthouse
What: Courthouse employees will gather for a time of reflection.

Hokie Remembrance Day
When: All day
Where: Christiansburg Recreation Center, 1600 N. Franklin St.
What: The recreation department staff encourages visitors to wear maroon and orange to show support for Virginia Tech students and faculty on this day of remembrance. Christiansburg Town Hall will display wreaths in tribute to the Hokie Nation.

VIRGINIA WESTERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE
A Day of Remembrance ceremony

When: Noon
Where: Court of Four Seasons
What: A ceremony to remember the lives of the 32 victims and a moment of silence, after which 32 Virginia Western students will plant a bed of perennial flowers­, one for each person who was killed .

HOLLINS UNIVERSITY
Prayer service

When: 8 a.m.
Where: Center Quad

Carillon of chapel bells
When: 9:46 a.m.

Center Quad Vigil
When: 4:30 p.m.
Where: Center Quad
What: A prayer and open mike for poetry, music and sharing thoughts, as well as a reading of the names of those who died.

Grief and Loss Workshop
When: 6:30 p.m.
Where: Moody Glass Dining Room
What: The session will be led by the Rev. Beth Evanson.

Slow Walk in Remembrance
When: 9:30 p.m.
Where: Front Quad
What: The service society Freya will walk and invites the community to join them. Candles will be provided.

ROANOKE
Mill Mountain Star

Where: Mill Mountain
What: The city of Roanoke is planning to commemorate the April 16 tragedy by turning off the Mill Mountain Star this evening. The last time the city turned the Star off was after the Sept. 11, 2001, tragedy.

A Time of Remembrance
When: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Where: Virginia Tech Roanoke Center, seventh floor atrium
What: Cards received from last year’s counselor education students from regional elementary schools will be on display.

University Remembrance Program
When: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Where: Virginia Tech Roanoke Center, Room 716
What: Live video stream from the Blacksburg campus of the University Remembrance Program.

THURSDAY
Dedication ceremony

When: 11 a.m.
Where: Virginia 724 bridge over Wolf Creek, near Narrows
What: The Giles County Board of Supervisors will dedicate the new bridge to the memory of Jarrett Lee Lane, a Tech engineering student and Narrows native.

SUNDAY
Hokie Spirit Community Picnic

When: 1 to 4 p.m.
Where: Drillfield
What: Open to Virginia Tech community, featuring food, games and more. There will be a program at 1:30 p.m. at the Memorial.
