Virginia Tech: How to give

Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund
Established by Virginia Tech to aid in the healing process to pay for expenses including grief counseling, memorials, communication expenses, comfort expenses and incidental needs. Contribute online at www.vt.edu/tragedy/memorial_fund.php.

Virginia Tech memorial funds
A list of funds have been created at Virginia Tech by family and friends in honor or memory of the victims. To contribute to any of these funds, go online to www.givingto.vt.edu or mail checks — made out “Virginia Tech Foundation Inc.” and designate the appropriate fund on the memo line — to Gift Accounting, University Development (0336), Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA 24061.

United in Caring Fund for Victims of the Virginia Tech Tragedy
Established by the United Way of Montgomery, Radford & Floyd to provide assistance for things such as funeral expenses, transportation for family members and mental health services support. Contributions can be made online at www.unitedwaynrv.org or to United Way of Montgomery, Radford & Floyd, P.O. Box 6202, Christiansburg, VA 24068. Those mailing payments should indicate their donation go to the United in Caring Fund for Victims of the Virginia Tech Tragedy.

School Violence Assistance Fund
Set up by the Foundation for Roanoke Valley. Send contributions to School Violence Assistance Fund, c/o Foundation for Roanoke Valley, P.O. Box 1159, Roanoke, VA 24006. For credit card donations, contact the foundation at (540) 985-0204. www.foundationforroanokevalley.org.

Virginia Tech Memorial Fund
The Korean American Coalition, the Korean American Students Conference, the Mirae Foundation and the Southern California Korean College Student Association have joined to create the Virginia Tech Memorial Fund. Contributions may be sent to the Korean American Coalition, Attn: VA Tech Memorial Fund, 1001 Connecticut Ave. N.W., Suite 730, Washington, DC 20036.

Hoos for Hokies
The University of Virginia’s Alumni Association has established a memorial fund in honor of those who lost their lives at Virginia Tech. Contributions can be made online at www.virginia.edu/vatechsupport/.

Phones for Life scholarship
Phones for Life, a nonprofit organization in California, is collecting cellphones and will use 25 percent of the value of the phones gathered this year to create a scholarship to memorialize those killed at Virginia Tech. Each scholarship will be for $5,000 and they will be awarded to one or two high school seniors. To donate cell phones and funds, visit www.phones4life.org or call (888) 211-9722.

The United Way Memorial Fund for Jeremy Herbstritt
Pennsylvania State University’s Office of Physical Plant, the Centre County United Way and the Nittany Bank of South Atherton have set up a fund in memory of Jeremy Herbstritt, a Penn State graduate and son of a Penn State employee. The funds collected will be available for Mike and Peg Herbstritt to use as they best see fit. Contributions can be made online at www.ccunitedway.org/index.html.

Ryan Clark Civitan Fund
Civitan International has established a memorial fund to remember Ryan Clark, who volunteered at Camp Big Heart, a Civitan camp in Georgia. The fund will be used to expand Camp Big Heart’s mission. Donations can be made at www.ryanclarkcivitanfund.org or by calling 1-800-CIVITAN.

Jocelyne Couture-Nowak and Jamie Bishop memorial scholarships
Virginia Tech’s Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures has established two memorial scholarships for French and German majors at Virginia Tech. Donations may be made payable to the Virginia Tech Foundation (www.vtf.vt.edu), for the Jocelyn Couture-Nowak Scholarship (French) or the Jamie Bishop Scholarship (German).

Henry Lee — TRIO Memorial Fund
The Council for Opportunity in Education has established the Henry Lee — TRIO Memorial Fund to assist the family of Henry Lee, a Roanoke College Upward Bound alumnus. Donations can be made online at www.coenet.us or sent to the Council for Opportunity in Education, Henry Lee TRIO Memorial Fund, 1025 Vermont Ave. NW, Suite 900, Washington, DC 2005.

BHS Austin Cloyd Memorial Fund
Blacksburg High School is starting a scholarship fund in memory of Austin Michelle Cloyd, a 2006 BHS graduate. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a college-bound Blacksburg High School senior via a written application process. The Cloyd family will have an integral role in selecting the recipient who best exemplifies Austin’s ideals. Funds are being collected at Blacksburg High School. Kevin P. Granata Memorial Trust
Donations toward the care and education of Granata’s three children can be mailed to the trust at 1872 Pratt Drive, Suite 1125, Blacksburg, VA 24060.

Henh Ly Memorial Scholarship Fund
William Fleming High School has established a memorial scholarship fund in memory of Henh Ly, aka Henry Lee, a 2006 graduate. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating William Fleming High School senior. A committee, including members of Ly’s family, will decide criteria for scholarship recipients. The school is also accepting donations to help Ly’s family. Donations can be sent to William Fleming High School, 3649 Ferncliff Ave., Roanoke, VA 24017 and doners should note whether their contribution should be used for Ly’s family or the Henh Ly Memorial Scholarship Fund.
