Cook-Out has a homey feel with a variety of fresh items

Many have heard of Cook-Out, a fast-food restaurant franchise based in North Carolina and known for its "outdoor-style" food.

Recently, a Cook-Out branch opened in Radford.

The menu encompasses many items, from hot dogs and burgers to chicken sandwiches and milkshakes. The items and style of cooking at Cook-Out are a breath of fresh air to the residents of Radford and surrounding areas, who have been eating the same fast-food at restaurants on U.S. 11 in Fairlawn for many years.

Upon entering the restaurant, there is a certain homey feel in the air.

The menu is written in neon letters on the classic board.

The place has been packed since its opening in late December, possibly because of Cook-Out's similarity to Five Guys, a national chain that has a restaurant in Blacksburg.

The difference is the many options that Cook-Out has, from multiple ways to customize a burger to heaping portions of coleslaw, chili, fries and hush puppies in many meals.

Another thing that is unique to Cook-Out is Cheerwine, a cherry-flavored soft drink not easily found in this area.

The atmosphere is also very nice, with faux wood benches and booths surrounded by Radford University and Virginia Tech memorabilia.

Overall, this restaurant gives the customer a very nostalgic feeling that few places can provide.
