Hundreds of plaid shirts and cowboy boots poured into Salem Civic Center, waiting in anticipation for the old-time string band. Although Old Crow Medicine Show has revisited the roots of American music and Bluegrass, it has become extremely popular over the past few years. Just a few of the band’s recent achievements included performing with the Dave Matthews Band and as a headlining act for the Grand Ole Opry.
While the Salem Civic Center might not exactly be as prestigious, O.C.M.S. put on an outstanding show. The band’s enthusiasm and obvious passion for music came through in an energetic performance that kept the crowd smiling and singing along.
When the first few chords of the hit song “Wagon Wheel” came through the speakers, the crowd came to life in a roar of applause and cheers. As the show came to a close it was obvious that the band had made a connection with the audience.
Even in an age of rap and pop music, this old-time, bluegrass, folk band continues to grow in popularity.
