Traditions bring out students' school spirit
Schools around the Roanoke Valley have traditions that the students enjoy and look forward to each year.
Roanoke Catholic football players ring the school's bell every time their team wins a game.
Another big deal every year at Catholic is Ring Day.
Most students look forward to the day they receive their class rings.
The students receive their rings as juniors. After they receive them, they see if they can get them twisted by other students 100 times.
Here's the bonus: The 100th twist earns a kiss for the twister.
Roanoke Catholic makes the ring ceremony a fun day for students every year.
At Patrick Henry High School, a familiar sight at the football games is the chicken on a stick.
The chicken, which has been passed on from senior classes for three years, is a popular tradition every Friday night.
Along with the chicken, PH seniors also have fun painting the rock wall next to the school every year.
At Salem, a favorite Friday morning event is the marching band playing in the hallways whenever Salem plays at home.
Whatever it is, students still have the spirit to keep things alive throughout the year.
