On the edge
Thoughts on ...
It's rather amusing (and slightly disturbing) that modern movies have to go to such great lengths to ensure that they entertain viewers. Take, for example, the recently released "G.I. Joe." I watched it -- not a fantastic movie, but entertaining nonetheless.
What struck me as strange was a rather sudden appearance. One of the first scenes is a midnight shootout with high-tech weapons. Pretty cool, right? And then, out of nowhere, a ninja drops in. That's right, a ninja. He's clad in black, holding a sword, doing crazy flips all over the place, and even has a cool name: "Snake Eyes."
Don't get me wrong; I think ninjas are awesome. But in a movie that is clearly custom-made for guns, Snake Eyes seemed to me more of a non sequitur than a hero.
