TV, please fix yourself for me

Dear television,

May I be frank?

I hope so. I watch a lot of you, I mean a lot. I watch you in the morning before school and after I get home. And I need your fix (of course,) before I go to bed.

Thus, it pains me to question you. Nevertheless, I must.

Over the past few months, I have noticed a hideous trend. Don’t get me wrong, I love repeats of “Scrubs” and “Reba” just as much as the next teenage girl.

However, is it really necessary for every channel to show these reruns? Do we need three hours or more of these shows every day? Do we need two hours every morning of “Saved by the Bell,” and two — two — stations re-running “What I Like About You?”

Granted, these are all wonderful shows — I enjoy them. But I now know every line and can no longer stand it. I, therefore, would like to humbly remind you of some of your finer moments in re-run history.

The summer of “Caroline in the City” is one I will always cherish, especially when it was mixed with such Olsen twin delights as “So Little Time ” and “Two of a Kind.” The short-lived but-ever-so-hilarious “Odd Man Out” is another I miss dearly. If you, dearest television, can remember that far back in your past (all the way back to the 1999-2000 season,) “Odd Man Out,” was one of your glorious children of ABC’s TGIF days. One of its other Friday night alums, “Boy Meets World,” used to come on for hours on end, and it was impossible to get tired of. I could never be weary of watching Cory muck up his relationship with Topanga as Shawn whined in the background and Eric, perhaps, ripped his shirt out of his fly or stuffed an entire piece of pizza in his mouth.

Ah, yes, those were the days.

Bring them back, TV! Along with “Brotherly Love,” “So Weird” (the earlier seasons with the wonderful, angsty brunette, Fi. NOT the later ones with the Bambi-eyed blonde, Annie.) and “Dawson’s Creek.”

For an instant in time — last year — I believe, “Buffy” came on every morning just before I went to school … you always knew how to start my day off right.

But now, how could you show the vampire-slayer spin-off “Angel” and not “Buffy?” How can you show constant repeats of Tila Tequila and not find a spare half-hour to show the only season of “Laguna Beach,” that was worth watching? (Season one, of course.) What about the original “Real World,” “Say What? Karaoke,” “Daria,” or “Clone High?”

Where has all the good TV gone? I want my old MTV!

I could go on, but I think you now understand. Those are my wishes, ole buddy, please try your hardest. In the meantime, I’ll be waiting, watching and most likely, buying new DVDs.

P.S. If you need to reach me, television, to further discuss my plans for your future, I can be found at Patrick Henry High School for the seven hours a day, five days a week, that I am forced to be away from your side.
