A "junior day" Saturday at Virginia Tech yielded the Hokies' first football commitment for the class of 2011.

Ronnie Vandyke, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound defensive back from South County High School in Lorton, made an oral commitment to the Hokies before heading home.

Vandyke, who missed South County's 2009 season with a dislocated shoulder, had received nine Division I-A scholarship offers. Other schools in the Vandyke hunt were Virginia, Maryland, Boston College and West Virginia.
