BLACKSBURG -- Boston College quarterback Dave Shinskie said this week he was looking forward to making his first trip to Lane Stadium.

Rest assured, it was a horrific visit for the 25-year-old freshman and his team.

Extracting some serious payback for three straight regular-season losses to BC, fifth-ranked Virginia Tech came out swinging, connected early and often, and tagged a 48-14 whuppin' on the punchless Eagles at Lane Stadium.

"Oh, it feels nice," Tech redshirt senior linebacker Cody Grimm said with a huge grin. "Especially, since it was BC. They've had our number."

The Eagles must have felt like dialing "911" early in this one. They never had a prayer.

The Hokies (5-1, 3-0 ACC) scored the first four times they got the ball, racing to a 24-0 lead in the first 18 minutes. It was 34-0 at halftime.

It was over.

"We beat a good football team and it was kinda just our day," Tech coach Frank Beamer said. "I can't remember, but it doesn't seem like we've had one like this for a while. It seemed like everyone last year was down to the wire, and everyone this year has been down the wire."

By halftime, the Eagles (4-2, 2-2) were anything but wired. BC had 3 total yards and zero first downs in the first half.

Meanwhile, the Hokies had run up 293 yards on the nation's 25th-ranked defense. There was no suspense left, outside of how long the line could possibly grow at the giant turkey leg outlet on Lane's east side.

Shinskie, who threw five touchdown passes in wins over Wake Forest and Florida State the past two Saturdays, found his first road college start to be a nightmare. He didn't complete a pass until the Eagles' first series of the second half. He finished 1-for-12 passing for 4 yards with two interceptions.

"I don't know what I was seeing back there," said Shinskie, whose vision was blocked most of the time by onrushing defenders. "They're quick, they're agile, they're going to get to you. They blitzed me on first and second down. I made a lot of mistakes."

Jacked to play after an uneven performance last week at Duke, Tech's defense was pitching a shutout before BC got a pair of trash-time TD passes by backup QB Michael Marscovetra. BC had 28 total yards -- 2 yards passing -- until getting 135 yards in the final 11 minutes vs. the Tech backups.

Hokies defensive end Nekos Brown, who spent most of the afternoon in the BC backfield, said the Tech defense was determined to bounce back after allowing 26 points and 397 yards at Duke. Hokies defensive coordinator Bud Foster said it was time for seniors to step up and take more of a leadership role this week.

"We all took it to heart the same way because Coach is right," Brown said. "They don't have to play, you do. We took pride in that and we all rallied together."

Offensively, Bryan Stinespring's outfit continues to make major strides.

Tech averaged 7 yards per snap and finished with 441 yards.

Spectactular redshirt freshman Ryan Williams continued to do his thing, rambling for 154 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown.

It marked his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the season, equaling the school's freshman record set by Darren Evans last season. Williams, who has 734 rushing yards halfway through the regular season, said he enjoyed going against BC, which he strongly considered in the recruiting process.

"I like all those guys and it felt good playing against them because I know lot of them. I didn't know '34,' " said Williams, referring to BC middle linebacker Mike McLaughlin.

"I really wanted to play against him really bad because to see him on film, he's everywhere. But no chip on anybody, I was just ready to play."

Williams, the master of the big play, ripped off runs of 31, 29 and 25 yards. McLaughlin said he told Williams after the game: " 'You are a big-time running back. You keep going like this and you're going to be something real special.' "

Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor was 7-for-10 passing for 126 yards, including first-half scoring tosses of 24 yards to Danny Coale and 41 yards to Jarrett Boykin

"Me and the receivers are coming along well and they're getting open, and I'm finding them," said Taylor, who is 24-for-32 passing for 453 yards, with four TDs and no interceptions the past two weeks.

The Hokies, who have a key ACC trip at Georgia Tech on Saturday night, had all the looks of being the nation's No. 5 team this day. The offense rolled, the defense was stout, plus the Hokies' scored a "Beamerball" TD on Rashad Carmichael's 22-yard interception return that made it 31-0 midway in the second quarter.

"Since I've been here, I think this is probably the best all-around game we've played," Grimm said.

"It's lot of fun when everybody plays like this."
