BLACKSBURG -- There were no boobirds flying Saturday afternoon in Lane Stadium for Virginia Tech's Sean Glennon.
Glennon, the fifth-year senior quarterback, was greeted with a huge roar from the crowd in pregame ceremonies honoring the Hokies' 14-member senior class, and received another huge round of applause when he entered the game early in the second quarter of Tech's 17-14 victory over Virginia.
"It definitely was something new," a grinning Glennon said after the game. "I remember just this season, running into the Furman game [Sept. 6] and I'm getting booed. And this year the crowd erupted like we scored a touchdown when I ran into the game.
"It was definitely something rare in my career to get that loud of a cheer. It's better late than never."
Glennon was booed last year at home when he came into the second game of the season against Ohio University.
Glennon, who will finish his career No. 5 on the school's passing yardage list, said he would have liked to have "felt more of a part" of his final game in Lane, but he's not bitter about it.
"A win is a win and we get to go to Tampa, that's all that matters," he said, referring to Saturday's ACC title game against Boston College.
"I've always said the silent majority is never heard, but the vocal minority is always heard. Even though I got a lot of jeers and boos in the past, it was from a small portion of the Hokie Nation. I know most of them support their players and are behind me all the way, but I definitely felt like most of the stadium was up cheering for me [today] and that felt good."
Something special
Tyrod Taylor's 73-yard gallop that stoked Tech's five-play, 85-yard drive to start the second half that tied the game at 14 was the Hokies' longest play from scrimmage this season.
The run was also a career long for Taylor. His 137 yards rushing also was a career best.
"Well, Tyrod is special ... special, man," Tech senior cornerback Macho Harris said. "He reminds me of 'em Vick boys [Michael and Marcus]. The Vick boys used to get it done back in the day. And he's definitely making it happen just like them."
