BLACKSBURG -- So much for early-season harmony for Virginia Tech's offensive line.

A line that broke preseason camp with its five starters solidly in place lasted only four snaps in last Saturday's season-opening 27-22 loss to East Carolina before losing its newest piece, redshirt freshman right tackle Blake DeChristopher.

DeChristopher sustained a severely bruised right knee and quad, plus a bruised right kidney, when he was clipped by an ECU player on Sean Glennon's first pass of the game, which resulted in an interception. Head athletic trainer Mike Goforth said DeChristopher could miss from 2 to 4 weeks.

Junior Richard Graham, who played 49 snaps in relief of DeChristopher, will get the start Saturday when Tech (0-1) faces Furman (1-0).

"I could tell that Blake was in a ton of pain," Graham said Wednesday. "He doesn't usually get hurt. He's one of my best friends. He's also my little brother on the team. ... We hang out all the time. I'm just going to go out there fighting and competing."

Graham started the first six games last season at left guard before tackle Ed Wang returned to the starting lineup. Redshirt freshman Greg Nosal, who got five snaps against ECU, will be the backup.

Macho on mend

Cornerback Macho Harris said Wednesday he expects to play Saturday. Harris didn't make the trip to Charlotte because of a sprained left foot.

"It was tough to watch," Harris said. "It was so serious that I wanted to jump into my TV and play myself. When they blocked the punt at the end and scooped it up and scored, I said, 'This ain't the right television I'm looking at right now.'"

Rough bus ride

Offensive tackle Ed Wang said the Hokies' bus ride home from Charlotte after the loss wasn't fun.

"It was frustrating," Wang said. "Everybody was down. It was quiet on that bus, most of the people were sleeping. I felt the same way. ... I was like, 'Please let me wake up and let this be a bad dream.'

"I was depressed all Saturday night and Sunday. I didn't even leave my apartment Sunday. But we got over it and everybody's spirits have picked up a little bit."

'White Out'

Lane Stadium will be dressed in predominantly white Saturday.

Not only will the Hokies wear all-white uniforms for the first time ever at home, they will don white helmets with an orange state of Virginia logo displayed on both sides. The helmet design was used under former coach Charley Coffey (1971-73).

Fans are asked to wear white as well.

There will be a book drop at each gate for fans donating a book for grades K-3. Each contributing fan will receive a coupon for a free soda.
