Sandy Smith, Virginia Tech assistant athletic director, said an error caused some online football season-ticket buyers to have funds taken from their bank accounts to pay for old tickets they had already paid for.
Smith said about 1,600 customers were affected, although a Tech news release put the figure at 2,500. Tech has not yet determined whether the error was made by the school or by ACH, a ticket-processing company it uses.
"A file was erroneously uploaded to ACH," Smith said. "I don’t know how that occurred, but it was a … historical file that was for some reason erroneously sent, or they got. We’re recalling all of those fees … and everybody should have the money back into their account by … [Thursday] morning."
The amount of money subtracted varied according to the past orders, said Smith, but he didn’t know the total.
