NCAA tournament: Anxiety on the bubble

Once again, Selection Sunday will be a nerve-wracking day for Virginia Tech.

The NCAA tournament bubble keeps getting smaller and smaller.

Houston won the Conference USA tournament, dropping UTEP into the at-large pool.

Washington (Pac-10) and San Diego State (Mountain West) shed their bubble status by winning their tournaments.

Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Minnesota, and Illinois boosted their resumes in their respective conference tournaments — unlike Virginia Tech.
 
The Hokies still have a better resume than they had the past two years, when they were relegated to the NIT, but the school’s players and fans will no doubt be crossing their fingers as they watch the NCAA pairings show at 6 tonight (WDBJ).

Here’s a look at the Hokies and some other bubble teams — two of whom could earn automatic bids today:

Virginia Tech
