GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Virginia Tech junior Dorenzo Hudson took part in a 5 p.m. Hokies' shootaround Wednesday at the Greensboro Coliseum and sounded optimistic that he would play Friday in Tech's opening game in the ACC men's basketball tournament.

Hudson said he felt 100-percent better than he did prior to Tech's final regular-season home game against North Carolina State, when he played 37 minutes despite a bruised foot.

He subsequently missed Tech's game Saturday at Georgia Tech and put his overall condition Wednesday at 70 percent.

"I'm taking it day-by-day," said Hudson, who had not participated in a practice earlier in Blacksburg, "but I feel I'll be able to play Friday. Three days would be a challenge."

Hudson got some shots up Wednesday and did some planting and cutting.

"I'm going to give him some live possessions [Thursday] to see if he can cut on it," said coach Seth Greenberg, whose Hokies (23-7 overall, 10-6 ACC) are expected to receive an NCAA bid. "I don't want to lose him for whatever games we have left to play.

"If I think he's struggling Friday, if I look and see him wincing or see him having trouble, then I'm going to take him out. He's at a point where he's going to give me his feedback. Our relationship is built on straight-talk.''
