The Virginia Tech men's basketball team won't have to play without Jeff Allen at Miami on Sunday.
In Thursday night's victory over the Virginia Cavaliers at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Allen was ejected for elbowing Jeff Jones in the face. The officials ruled it a flagrant personal foul, the penalty for which is an ejection.
Allen was not suspended by athletic director Jim Weaver on Friday -- nor by the ACC.
"I didn't even think it warranted what it got," Weaver said.
"But he was ejected from the game, which is the penalty that goes with the call the officials made, and that's it. ... I happened to see that part [on TV]. ... It wasn't a flagrant foul."
Weaver suspended Allen for one game last season for making an obscene gesture to fans in a game at Maryland.
"Last year when I suspended Jeff Allen, it was for an entirely different type of situation," Weaver said.
In 2006, Weaver suspended Deron Washington for one game for kicking Lee Melchionni in the face.
Washington was ejected for a flagrant foul.
Two years ago, the ACC suspended Allen for two games for bumping an official in a game at Georgia Tech. ACC associate commissioner Karl Hicks said Allen's track record was not a factor in the league's decision whether or not to suspend Allen on Friday.
"We look at the incident itself as isolated and we determine whether ... something more substantial is warranted," Hicks said.
"In this particular instance, we felt the officials handled it 100 percent correctly."
